United Nations University

The United Nations University (UNU) is the academic arm of the United Nations. It bridges the academic world and the United Nations system. Its goal is to develop sustainable solutions for current and future problems of humankind in all aspects of life. Through a problem-oriented and interdisciplinary approach it aims at teaching, applied research and education on a global scale. UNU was founded in 1973 as an autonomous organ of the United Nations General Assembly. The University comprises headquarters in Tokyo, Japan, and more than a dozen Institutes and Programmes worldwide.

Proceedings of UNU-FLORES International Scoping Workshop published

The publication documents the state of the art concerning the establishment of the United Nations University Institute for Integrated Management of Material Fluxes and of Resources ( UNU-FLORES) in Dresden and its envisaged Twin in Mozambique. It keeps up and manifests the momentum gained during the 1st International Scoping Workshop that took place in November 2010.

Background: 1st International Scoping Workshop

The 1st International Scoping Workshop on the establishment of UNU-FLORES took place in Dresden, Germany, on 11 and 12 November 2010. It was attended by more than 30 high-level stakeholders from UNU, Dresden University of Technology (TUD) and associated institutions, Mozambique, other African countries and international experts. During this workshop, participants were informed about the general strategies concerning research, education and capacity development within UNU, TUD and the government of Mozambique.
